How can the new world order take shape after coronavirus?
For some time, the world has been on a deadlock in terms of climate, nature, resources, human population and income differences. As a solution to these problems that have been around for a while due to the COVID-19 epidemic or excuse, we see that an alternative world model has been adopted. In this article, I would like to state that I will not try to explain in any way whether this change is good or bad, but my goal is to deal with this process, which is still very new, with a different perspective.
With the epidemic, we see that robotization has begun, that is, manpower has been replaced by robots.
We know that robots were produced in many areas from sex robots to driverless vehicles in the period before the epidemic, but these robots were not widely used yet. The use of these robots with corona has become almost a necessity, and as we have seen in many countries in the example of the introduction of driverless vehicles in the epidemic process, these robots quickly began to replace humans in many areas of life. So, what does this mean? The need for human for the labor force required for production is decreasing, that is, while the human population, which has become a problem in recent years, is decreasing, the need for production and labor is in no way affected.
Transition to online education
Just as in the case of robotization, a rapid and compulsory transition was achieved with the corona epidemic to online education services that have been prepared for some time and are not widely applied although it is possible to apply. In 2-3 months, we see that individual and institutional trainings have started to be provided in many fields such as sports, yoga, dance and drawing with the help of social media as well as formal education in schools. Maybe online school is much more efficient for students.
Closing borders
We know that due to climate change, places such as the Arabian Peninsula or Africa have become unsuitable for desertification and agriculture and human life. Likewise, it was expected that climate migrations would be experienced when living in regions with glaciers was not possible. In order to prevent these and similar migrations, as seen in the example of Syria and refugee problem, countries tended to tighten their border and immigration policies before the epidemic. With the epidemic, many of the countries quickly and compulsorily closed their borders.
Like the closing of the borders, the European Union and the alliances are broken
We see that Europe, which played a major role in the establishment and shaping of today’s order based on the industrial revolution and science and technology, and the European Union, which started to crack with economic crises before the corona, did not cooperate and help with the corona process. Examples of this situation are the fact that Czechia seized health supplies sent to Italy recently or that Italy, which was severely affected by the epidemic, was not supported by European countries. We do not know what else will happen in the coming days.
The world population is starting to decrease rapidly and the potential to decrease
Before the corona, the rapid increase of the human population and the climate problem and other environmental problems have started to become palpable in recent years when the resources are insufficient. The balance in nature was severely impaired as a result of the destructions of people unconsciously and unconsciously for years, and in order for nature to recover itself and to survive in a certain balance again, it had to get rid of this human invasion and manipulation that had lasted for years and take a comfortable breath. With the corona, both the population started to decrease rapidly, and production, consumption and human mobility decreased, so that nature began to breathe and the living population and resource imbalance started to decrease even if it sounded a bit brutal. As in the example of the reduction of air pollution in China during the corona epidemic period.
Minimalist life trend
I have been watching my wardrobe, which has been occupying space in my bedroom for days. And I think how unnecessary so many clothes are, lots of clothes that I haven’t touched for weeks.
I want to reduce the items at home, when I spend so much time at home, I faced a lot of unnecessary items. And of course, we have entered a period when cleaning and hygiene are important.
This month my credit card statement is lower than the other months because I have never done any unnecessary shopping. I realized the unnecessary luxury; they will never enter my life again easily.
I expect my spending priorities to change further in this direction. When it comes to health, hygiene and cleaning heads, it feels like I will spend more money than before. Everything for show, beauty, aesthetics, expensive costume clothes… I do not think that I will allocate a budget for them.
An alternative view
Post-corona world order… A pointless historical periodization effort.
Because world history contains continuity. It seems that even moments that look like revolution with a long-term perspective are actually part and continuation of a much more integrated process. Therefore, what is called change cannot be detected and felt with a human lifetime because it often exceeds chronological and periodic time, but it can be understood and interpreted by looking back…
From this historical point of view, capitalism, the new version of western civilization that could exist internally and externally based on exploitation in almost every field, seems to mark the lives of individuals over a longer period of time.
My personal wishes are of course to be the opposite of this! but that dominant collective mentality, in which there is no sign of a cultural change, is a guarantor of capitalism. So, we are all blindly adhering to the principles of inequality underlying capitalism. Unless this commitment is shaken, there is no such thing as the post-corona world order. At least, we witness capitalism’s new strategy of production-circulation-consumption.
It has already become clear that we cannot build a future based on prosperity, peace and happiness… Will the elite who eliminate the risk in quarantine and the people who still have to go out on the streets struggle with this system as a whole? these elites try to be the brains of the struggle against power without shame! the wickedness of the peoples of the world does not allow this.
It’s better not to. Privileges protected from coronavirus in both cases will produce a new inequality relationship. I want the romanticism of those who hope that a socialist new world order will emerge from an individualism-centered discourse and action level! Until then, I repeat; capitalism will survive unless the oppressed peoples who are subjected to the tyranny of western civilization are organized! You will appreciate that it is very difficult to organize in quarantine conditions.
We were already living in the grip of famine and epidemic diseases. When we think of the welfare of the countries in the periphery and semi-periphery, is it not clear that a material and cultural famine surrounds all around? On the other hand, outbreaks such as obesity, cancer, heart attack and depression have not spread from central countries for a long time?
Capitalism has also seen much greater famine and epidemic disease. It is evident that they can build the new monopolist regime by digesting oppressed peoples and classes in all of them. Now that there is no other way to quarantine for a section, it is necessary to wait until capitalism renews itself.
Coronavirus is overcome. Even socialism doesn’t matter. What does this socialism, other than being a branch of western civilization, mean by producing a new ruling-ruled hierarchy by monopolizing the relations of production and circulation? I think they can introduce a technology-centered neo-Keynesian capitalist program. Now that we have a very handicap of global exploitation, we run a regional and national exploitation logic, what will happen!
