SmileMate was created by the French company Dental Monitoring. It basically consists of 2 pieces of hardware, a dental retractor and a smartphone retention slot called ScanBox. When it is time to scan, the first thing the patient needs to do is to face the mirror and put the retractor in his mouth to expose his teeth. Then attach the ScanBox with their phones attached to this retractor. Thanks to the magnetic system, these two pieces can be attached easily.
Managed with an application that is valid on both iOS and Android, SmileMate guides the patient with voice tips. Thanks to these directions, the patient tilts the ScanBox back and forth and up and down to take a series of photographs of his teeth with a smartphone. These photos are uploaded to a server using artificial intelligence-based algorithms for analysis.
If the algorithm detects problems such as poor hygiene or misalignment, it sends a notification to the orthodontist to give the patient an appointment.
